Dinara Safina’s metaphorical appearance on Russian ‘Wipeout’

Here's a video clip of former world No. 1 (and current world No. 108) Dinara Safina competing on a Russian version of the television game show "Wipeout." That's the show where contestants run across an obstacle course and get beat up by plastic balls and punched in the gut by Whack-a-Mole boxing gloves.

Basically, it's a three-minute metaphor for Safina's fall from tennis grace:

On the same day this clip was posted to YouTube, Safina earned her biggest win in years, stunning Sam Stosur at Indian Wells. Just like in the "Wipeout" run, Safina overcame multiple obstacles (16 double faults, her own head) to defeat a worthy adversary. She'll play fellow Russian Maria Sharapova in the fourth round.
