The first of four Clasicos over these next few weeks predictably left a bit to be desired (which is probably just how Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola planned it) with both goals in the 1-1 draw being scored from spot kicks for penalties that weren't exactly instances of stomach-churning violence.
Though Raul Albiol was sent off for holding David Villa's collarbone when he fell down in the box, perhaps the most heinous foul of the day was when Marcelo went tumbling into the linesman as he challenged Messi for a ball going over the touchline. The linesman hit the ground hard, but Marcelo was nice enough to help him up.
And speaking of Messi, he showed a bit of a feisty side when he realized he couldn't save another ball from going out and decided to blast it directly a section of Real fans at the Bernabeu (video below). The fans instantly reacted by raining flags and whatever else they could down on him, but the situation turned comical when Pepe took it upon himself to confront Messi about his act. Pepe pointed to his head in an apparent dig at Messi's sanity, which is rich coming from the guy who goes around kicking people in the back...
Messi really should have been booked for that even though he tried to play innocent.
