2011 NFL Mock Draft: Will Seattle Seahawks Give Jake Locker a Shot at No. 25?

2011 NFL Mock Draft Has Three of Five Experts Saying Seahawks Will Give Jake Locker a Chance

Jake Locker certainly isn't someone that's going to step onto the field and start racking up wins right away in the NFL, so he does need to be developed a little bit. But being a Washington native, he very well could be picked by the Seahawks, and if the Seahawks value his 2009 season and pre-draft workouts more than they value his 2010 season, they will probably give him a shot.

Kiper: Jake Locker, QB, Washington

After a season widely considered disastrous in terms of his overall draft stock, I have Locker bouncing back some during the lead-up to the draft. He was impressive enough at the combine and proved that he's every bit the athlete that Newton is (they ran identical times in the 40). He has a big-time arm and just needs to show that his accuracy is something that will develop when he has time to throw.

McShay: Jake Locker, QB, Washington

Locker would be in an ideal situation sitting behind Hasselbeck and Whitehurst in 2011, giving him time to work out his mechanics and get the practice reps he needs to become more accurate and consistent. He needs at least a full year of grooming before he is ready to face the pressure of game action.

Rang: Gabe Cabrimi, OT, Wisconsin

Carimi, a four-year starter at left tackle, lacks the elite athleticism to remain there in the NFL, which could push him into the second portion of the round. The 2010 Outland Trophy winner has the bulk, strength and physicality in the running game to star on the right side.

Banks: Andy Dalton, QB, TCU

I think the steady, if unspectacular, Dalton comes to be viewed as the most likely prospect to be the third quarterback off the board -- ahead of even Jake Locker, Ryan Mallett, Christian Ponder and Nevada's Colin Kaepernick...Locker is intriguing, but he's probably just not accurate enough to warrant a first-round pick.

Kirwan: Jake Locker, QB, Washington

I recently watched six games of Locker and he has tons of raw talent with at least a year of work to prepare. Re-signing Matt Hasselbeck to a short-term deal would make this a solid pick. Coaches seem to like Locker much more than his media perception as an undisciplined scrambler indicates. Two head coaches have told me they would love to coach Locker, and one compared his style to a young Steve Young.

My take: Jake Locker, QB, Washington

Kiper appears to think Locker's workouts before the draft will largely overshadow his 2010 season, which saw him disappoint mightily.

I personally think a player's play on the field is more important than how fast his 40-yard dash was, but let's not forget, Locker was considered the top quarterback in college football coming into last season with the Huskies. He still has a lot of potential.

And as McShay notes, another year of grooming could be just the ticket for Locker.
