Congolese club TP Mazembe beat Brazil's Internacional 2-0 on Tuesday to become the first side from outside of Europe or South America to reach the Club World Cup final. After each of Mazembe's fine goals, the team's own keeper, Muteba Kidiaba, did his trademark rear-end hop celebration (0:20 and 1:20 into the video above) and in the process, signaled the gleeful rise of non-traditional football powers. Even if it is just by the space between Kidiaba's backside and the ground.
Though the Club World Cup is hardly considered important by anyone not named Massimo Moratti, the fact that Mazembe have derailed the inevitable European and South American handshake party that has been the brief history of the tournament's final is still worth notice. Sepp Blatter's devine placement of World Cups and massive disparities in wealth aside, could this be a sign that -- gasp! -- clubs around the world are beginning to level out?
Inter will play Korea's Seongnam Ilhwa on Wednesday to decide the other finalist. Mazembe, meanwhile, patiently wait. With bicycle parts on their heads...
