CHICAGO -- Brian Urlacher did not major in History at New Mexico. As he walked off the field after the Bears demolition of Seattle Sunday, somebody told him about Chicago's next opponent.
"Big history game, I guess," he said.
Among the clues: Tickets are going for $10,000-plus. The Wisconsin National Guard is massing troops along the state border. Jay Cutler even seems interested in the game.
It's not often, you see, that Green Bay and Chicago hook up in a playoff game. The last time it happened was the week after Pearl Harbor was bombed. Brett Favre threw three interceptions as the Bears won 33-14. Then he announced his retirement.
Now two of the NFL's classic franchises will finally meet again. As if there was any doubt.
"The Packers and Bears to finish it up," Lovie Smith said. "That's how it should be."
The NFL was truly blessed this year. It had irresistible storylines and its marquee teams were good.
