U2 Concert Moves Marlins-Mariners Series From Miami to Seattle

Seattle fansIt's no secret the Marlins are in quite a hurry to get out of the edifice currently known as Sun Life Stadium and into their new digs in Little Havana in 2012. Now they'll have three fewer games to play at the facility better known as the home of the Dolphins.

A conflict with a U2 concert at the stadium has prompted MLB to switch a June 24-26 Marlins-Mariners series to Seattle. The long-anticipated move was officially announced Thursday as MLB unveiled the full 2011 schedule.

The Marlins will wear their home uniforms and bat last for all three games to be held at Safeco Field, and the series will be played under National League rules, so there will be no DH.

Considering the Marlins' usual home attendance, which struggles to get into five figures many nights, it's doubtful many will be inconvenienced by the switch. The crowds certainly will be bigger in Seattle, and the teams won't have the deal with the logistical questions involved in moving the series to a site that doesn't normally host major league games. Vancouver was under consideration for a time, along with the usual fallback of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
