Video: Djokovic smashes racquet after losing sensational point

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic defeated Marcos Baghdatis in a third-round thriller at Wimbledon, extending his 2011 record to a staggering 44-1. The win didn't come without some collateral damage though, as this point demonstrates:

Though I'm no expert on the human condition, I don't think Djokovic was too happy with the result of that point or the racquet abuse warning he later incurred. (It was the third racquet slam that gave him away.) He needn't have been so angry. Yes, he could have been more aggressive with his shot selection during the point but that shouldn't take away from the fact that Baghdatis hit three spectacular shots en route to winning the point. Sometimes you've just gotta give the other guy his due.

Djokovic had been in a funk prior to that point, reminiscent of the one he went through during his French Open semifinal loss to Roger Federer. He was slumping his shoulders and getting caught flat-footed on points. He was letting the pro-Baghdatis crowd get in his head. The match, which had seemingly been in his control, was on the verge of flipping.

The busted racquet snapped him out of his malaise. Though Baghdatis would go on to win the set, Djokovic got his head back in the match afterwards and would go on to win6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
