Group A of the Women's World Cup was already decided with Canada and Nigeria failing to take any points off of Germany and France in the first two matchdays, but to turn off the lights in the second half of Canada's ultimately meaningless match against Nigeria on Tuesday was a bit harsh.
While most attention was on the Germany's 4-2 win over France, The lights in Dresden's Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion went out with Canada and Nigeria still scoreless in the 84th minute. The match was halted as they tried to get them back on, and when they finally did, Nigeria scored the winner a minute after play resumed. That capped off a very disappointing trip for Canada and probably made them wish the lights had just stayed off.
