UFC on Versus 3 Results: Diego Sanchez Survives Hell Against Martin Kampmann

Diego Sanchez came into this fight calling himself "The Dream" as he stood across the cage from "The Hitman" Martin Kampmann.

Shaved head and all, he looked like the most focused Diego we'd seen in a long time.

They started of with few short shots, and Diego even threw a short Muay Thai knee.

Kampmann answered back by dropping Diego and showing some nice takedown defense in the first round.

Diego was already cut open before the final minute of round one and this round looked a clear 10-9 for Kampmann.

The second round looked like more of the same until Diego turned the fight into an evil dream for Kampmann, with blood pouring out from Kampmann's right eye socket as if the eye had been torn out.

The second round I had for Sanchez, but it was a close round by all means.

Rogan noted in the third round that Kampmann was breathing heavily, but he still hung on tight.

Diego shot for takedowns at times during the entire fight, but only score the one in the third round that almost led to a rear naked choke.

Diego's face looked worse than it did after BJ Penn's outing with him, but with the way he and Kampmann were fighting, the official decision would not have surprised me either way.

On one hand, Kampmann showed great takedown defense and could have possibly had the better striking, as his face barely looked better than Sanchez's did after the third round. But on the other hand, Diego did land that one takedown and his aggressive pace was obvious all throughout.

In one of the best pure fights in recent MMA history, it was the judges who had it 29-28 across the board, and it was the more bloodied Sanchez who walked out with the decision.

You know what, Bleacherholics?

I'm not even going to attempt to guess what the fight will for both men's careers <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:1; mso-generic-font-family:roman; mso-font-format:other; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:0 0 0 0 0 0;} @font-face {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-520092929 1073786111 9 0 415 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide:no; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; margin-top:0in; margin-right:0in; margin-bottom:10.0pt; margin-left:0in; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} .MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; mso-default-props:yes; font-size:12.0pt; mso-ansi-font-size:12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} .MsoPapDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; margin-bottom:10.0pt;} @page WordSection1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.0in 1.0in 1.0in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} --> we'll talk about that later.

For now, the big takeaway is that we were promised on hell of a fight by UFC President Dana White, and we got that here tonight.

If a rematch ever goes down, I don't care if it's $45 out of my pockets or not.

If a rematch ever goes down, I'll gladly pay to see that sh*t  again.
