Raul Meireles puts Dirk Kuyt in a celebratory facelock.
Aided by Luis Suarez's Uruguayan wizardry, Dirk Kuyt scored three goals -- his first hat trick for Liverpool -- from a combined four inches away from the goal line to beat Man United 3-1 (see highlights here). Man United have now lost three of their last five matches for the first time since 2004, which opens up the title race and makes their undefeated run seem like a distant fever dream.
As if instigated by the ghost of Gary Neville, the end of the first half turned aggro as Jamie Carragher only saw a yellow card for a terrible challenge on Nani that opened up a cut (described by Man Utd's official website as a "very deep gash") and deserved a red. Shortly after, Rafael was similarly lucky not to get sent off, which kind of evened things out and helped ensure we wouldn't get another week of moaning about referee bias instead of highlighting the fine performances of actual footballers. Imagine that.
Here are some pictures from the afternoon's festivities...
"Haha I hate you."
"Haha I hate you more!"
Nani vehemently protests Carragher's challenge...
Then he realizes that he's bleeding...
Then came the tears as he was stretchered off...
According to the Guardian's Daniel Taylor, Carragher waited outside Man United's dressing room after the match so he could apologize to Nani. Which is sweet.
Suarez attempts to tame Rafael (as he did the rest of Man United) by grabbing a fistful of his unruly hair.
Rafael points out the mark Fergie made on him to distinguish him from his twin brother.
Sir Alex decides he's never going to talk to anyone ever again.
And King Kenny had a regal chuckle at Man United's expense.
