As Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola continues his epic struggle against lower back pain, he took the time out of his busy schedule of hospital visits and being the immortal hero of a city to speak to the press on Monday. Naturally, he spoke about the club Barcelona trails 2-1 after the first leg of their Champions League tie and just as naturally, there was a line that Arsenal will probably dislike.
From the Guardian:
"Wilshere is a top player. He is an excellent player, not just Arsenal, but also for the national team."
OK, well, that's certainly a nice thing to say. Surely there's no way this can take a turn for the insulting...
"[But] he is lucky because we have many players in the second team like him but he plays because there is no pressure at his club to win titles."
Oh my. That sounds an awful lot like Pep's saying that an excellent player for Arsenal and England is just another banana on the vine by Barcelona's superhuman standards. And that Arsenal are so hopeless in the silverware department that winning titles isn't even all that important over there anymore.
Granted, Pep doesn't seem the type to do that and he was probably so loaded up on back pills that he didn't even know he was talking in a roomful of people who weren't Disney characters. So it's hard to accuse him of intentionally pulling a Mourinho. Which is kind of a shame.
