WWE News: Christian?s World Title Win Was All About Putting Edge on PPV

WWE Used Christian To Get Edge On Extreme Rules In Some Capacity

(Warning! This article contains Smackdown spoilers)

Think back to Sunday night at WWE Extreme Rules. Christian climbs the ladder and grabs the world heavyweight title, defeating Alberto Del Rio to capture his first world title in WWE. That moment that he had in that match with Edge and then celebrating in the ring by himself was really close to being a perfect moment.

As it turns out, the moment was designed not as a job well done for Christian, rather a cheap way to get Edge on the show.

From Wrestlezone.com:

...Christian's title win at Extreme Rules was done not so much as a "well deserved win for Christian," but much more so that a big moment could be made for Edge at the PPV. "Vince [McMahon] could smell, touch and taste a moment between Edge and Christian celebrating on PPV, and that's the major reason why Christian was awarded the title."

So even in victory Christian can't be put over because of his working ability or the fact that he has been with the company for nine years and worked as hard as anyone without ever getting a real push, but just to get Edge to come back and do a spot on the show.

If that's the case, why didn't they just make a bigger deal out of Christian winning the battle royal to get the title shot against Del Rio? Instead of having him win the title and then drop it two days later, like a complete geek.
