The fallout keeps coming.
Ana Ivanovic, who won in a magical two week run three years ago (incredibly) has been cast out of a tournament she had dominated then, a loser 7-6, 0-6, 6-2 to Johanna Larsson of Sweden.
It was a match composed of all the symptoms of inconsistency and indecision, as well as a signal lack of self-confidence and belief, that has plagued the Serbian tennis princess' career ever since her win here in 2008.
A tight opening set forced a tiebreak, which the Swede managed to win, seven points to three. While Ivanocic would recoup and respond quite majestically in the second, to win it to love, and even go up a break in the third, nothing will likely console her after so dismal a defeat.
A first round loss here is in almost complete contrast to her win here three years ago - a title which it seems might very well haunt her the rest of her career, should it witness the seemingly endless downward spiral it seems to be taking.
For Larsson though, there would be much joy and happiness - many would feel however that this was just one that slipped out of the Serbian's grasp.
