Clever Blackpool fan slips dig at Preston into game show

I have no idea what is going on with that guy on the left's hair.

First, Blackpool fans arranged for mocking plane banners to fly over Preston North End's final home game before being relegated to League One next season. Though it succeeded in angering their rivals, it was a costly and unoriginal prank that could even bring criminal charges. This latest twist of the knife, however, is pure genius.

Preston fans watching quiz show Countdown were in for an unexpected reminder of their misfortune in the final round of the program (the "Countdown Conundrum") when the letters were arranged to spell out "PNE Crisis." As co-host Rachel Riley solved the anagram puzzle with the word "priciness," Preston North End supporters must have been wondering whether their grief was warping their minds. Surely this was just a coincidence...right?

Of course not. From The Mirror:

A spokeswoman [for Countdown] said: "One of the production team is a Blackpool fan and it was intended as friendly banter."

Clever, costless and completely unexpected. That's how it's done.
