Carl Pavano might have failed miserably in his attempt at a�Jim Thome/Paul Bunyan impression on Sunday, but at least he had a sense of humor about a tirade he called both �"embarrassing" and "amazing."
"I couldn't break it," the Minnesota Twins pitcher told reporters of the bat he used during a post-start tantrum in a 10-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals. "I couldn't break a bat on the field, either."
Not that Pavano didn't try his hardest to do some damage in the visitor's dugout at Kauffman Stadium. After surrendering six earned runs and 12 hits in just 5 1/3 innings of work, Carl got hot and�converted his anger into a classic swinging spree that a passerby teammate narrowly escaped.

"Was it the most mature way to deal with it?," Pavano asked. "No. But it wasn't pointed at anyone. It actually felt amazing. I'd like to go out and do it again."
Tell you what: If Pavano is actually planning on busting bats again this season �he might want to get a few points from Carlos Zambrano. (Tip No. 1: Make sure the only innocent bystander is a Gatorade cooler, not a fellow member of the pitching staff.)
Nevertheless, Pavano's need for an outlet is certainly understood. The performance dropped him to 2-3 with a 5.84 ERA on the year and the Twins' overall record to a worst-in-baseball 9-18. Beset by a rash of injuries and the worst April in franchise history, the Twins are leading the league in frustration and strife.
But while Twins fans probably like seeing that the players care just as much as they do, there's only place they should want to see�Pavano�awkwardly wielding a bat the rest of the season: The batter's box during interleague play.
