1. Delvon Roe is better at two sports than most of us are at one. The Michigan State wing got his first taste of competitive golf this past weekend, shooting 86-84 to take the runner-up spot in the second flight at the Greater Lansing Amateur Golf Association's spring tournament. "It was the first time I played golf where I had to putt everything in," he told the Lansing State Journal. "There was no one saying, 'That's good, pick it up.'"
2. Pedestrian statistics and an unpolished low-post game didn't prevent Terrence Jennings from forgoing his final year of eligibility at Louisville and entering the NBA draft. The 6-10 junior announced Tuesday he will hire an agent, a gamble considering most mock drafts suggest he'd be fortunate to be drafted in the second round.
3. Paul Hewitt often struggled dealing with critics during the rocky end to his Georgia Tech tenure, but the new George Mason coach had fun with Patriots fans during a lighthearted Q&A this week. Asked what would be on a burger named after him, Hewitt said, "banana peppers, cheddar, gotta go lettuce and tomato, and just as a curveball, some cucumbers for crunch."
4. It looks like a pretty safe bet that Maryland big man Jordan Williams will remain in the NBA draft, a significant blow to a Terps team hoping to return to the NCAA tournament next season. Not only did Williams skip out on the team banquet, teammate Cliff Tucker told the Baltimore Sun, "It seems like he's ready to get out of here."
5. Tom Izzo has dressed as everything from a 60s hippie to a Spartan warrior for Midnight Madness, so it's no surprise the Michigan State coach was willing to play the role of cafeteria worker for a day. Izzo was among the school's head coaches who volunteered to ease students into finals week by serving lunch at the dining hall on Monday.
Other programs may have more basketball pedigree, more luxurious facilities or more rabid fan bases, but Hawaii has found a way to combat that. Warrior Insider provides this video of Hawaii coach Gib Arnold teaching incoming freshmen Dillon Biggs and Gerry Blakes how to surf on a recent recruiting visit. Is it any wonder both signed with the Warriors?
"Larry has tomorrow written all over him, as he is a bit of a late bloomer who grew several inches over the past couple years. He possesses the ability to be a multi-position player with great versatility. His excellent hands and touch give him the potential to excel as both an interior and perimeter player." -- Wyoming coach Larry Shyatt on new recruit Larry Nance Jr., son of the former Cleveland Cavs star.
