"I turn left for a living," Jimmie Johnson said before playing in a pro-am tournament in Charlotte, "and for some reason my golf ball goes right all the time."
Johnson, a celebrity participant in the Wednesday round before the start of the Wells Fargo Championship, played well enough for a guy with a handicap of 21. As you can see in the video above, he answered with a straight face the idea of fear in a race car vs. fear in a tee box.
He played with PGA Tour pro Johnson Wagner, but it was Johnson who was the clear star of the show, getting heckled by Casey Mears from the gallery and signing autographs after almost every hole, according to USA Today's Nate Ryan. Plus, he got to meet Arnold Palmer. (Non-golf fans: you know how we call Richard Petty "The King"? They call Palmer "The King," for the same exact reason. And it's every bit an equal comparison.)
So, yeah, golf. Silly sport. But hey, Vader had fun doing it, for the most part.
"The thing that frustrates me the most is I hit a great tee shot and then you're sitting there where you need to be and you're all excited about your second shot, and top it or do something stupid there and waste a good opportunity," Johnson said. "That's when I really get fired up at myself." And on the golf course, there's no Chad Knaus to calm you down.
