Wesley Sneijder opened the scoring in the Netherlands' 3-1 win over Austria on Wednesday with a stunner that deserved a bigger stage than a piddly midseason friendly. Keeping his balance as he blew through a defender's attempt to trip him, linking up for a couple of quick passes, and launching a volley off the crossbar and into the goal as he fell to the ground -- Sneijder showed his class yet again.
Sneijder came off at halftime, mostly because a friendly only deserves 45 minutes of his awesomeness.
This was Sneijder's 20th goal for the Netherlands and first since he finished the 2010 World Cup as one of the tournament's co-leading scorers with five goals. It also serves as a loving reminder as to why Sneijder should have been tacked on to the Ballon d'Or shortlist.
