Szczesny says he injured Fabianski, takes his place

Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is likely to miss the rest of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery to fix an injury suffered while saving a shot in a pre-match warmup. The shooter? His backup, Wojciech Szczesny.

Now, before you pull out your Jump to Conclusions mat and start accusing Szczesny of an elaborate plot to eliminate Fabianski so he can become Arsenal's starting goalkeeper, just know that Wojciech says it isn't at all like that.

From Soccernet:

Speaking to sports.pl, Szczesny said: "I was warming Fabian up before the game with Manchester City and I took a very powerful shot. He made a beautiful save but also got an injury. I didn't do it on purpose, I was just doing my job.

"I feel stupid about it. I even told him it would have been better if he didn't save that shot. I take advantage of my teammate's misfortunes." [Or: "I'm benefitting from my teammate's bad luck."]

See? He feels stupid about it. Even though Fabianski being out for the whole second half of the season is a tremendous boost to his career. I mean, he tried to warn him not to save the shot (after the fact) and everything! And now, he's forced to benefit from Fabianski's awful luck, which manifested itself in the form of his awesomely powerful shot that he in no way intended to destroy his teammate's shoulder.

Also, for the record, it's a total coincidence that Szczesny watched Black Swan the night before this happened. Total. Coincidence.
