We've grown accustom to Nigel De Jong savagely injuring opponents, but in the first half of Man City's 2-2 draw against Birmingham on Wednesday, the tables were turned on him by his own teammate.
Richards hurled his body over an opponent to try and clear a bouncing ball with his head, hauling down De Jong in the process. Richards lost consciousness and was given oxygen before being taken to the hospital, though it seems he'll be alright. As for De Jong, well, take a look...
Starts off bad. Richards' body contorts itself as he is drawn to the unsuspecting beacon of agony. Usually it's Nigel in control of the pain being inflicted, but this time, he is just along for the miserable ride.
Getting worse. Contact is made and damage is being done. The tower of Dutch menace is topped by a kamikaze Englishman.
And it's lights out for you.
Both men writhe in distress. Richards clearly dazed and De Jong driving his face into the dirt to stifle the pain. Micah would be carried off on a stretcher with an oxygen mask attached to his face. But could this be the end of Nigel De Jong? Is this how his reign of terror is finally neutralized?!
No. Head bandaged, Nigel De Jong continued on until halftime. Satisfied with his 27th minute yellow card, he made way for a bumbling Patrick Vieira. Still, The Destroyer searches for his next victim. Intended or otherwise.
