Landon Donovan not ruling out future return to Everton

Landon Donovan won't be going on another fairy tale loan spell with Everton next month, but as he stated on Twitter, he isn't ruling out the possibility of trying to return at some point in the future, either.

Before making that personal address to disappointed Everton fans in just under 140 characters (is there anything this man can't do?), Landon said this (via the AFP):

"While I enjoyed my time at Everton last season and still appreciate all the support their fans have given me, I feel that it is important to continue to rest and recover this offseason as opposed to going on loan," Donovan said in a statement on Tuesday.

"I have been playing nearly nonstop for the past two years and I believe that this decision will allow me to perform at my best for the Galaxy and the national team throughout the upcoming year," he said.

If anyone needs/deserves an extended rest, it's this guy. Between the long MLS seasons, his last whirlwind trip to Everton (I guess getting carried around by Jack Rodwell doesn't conserve as much energy as you might think), and those exhausting late comebacks in South Africa that made everybody want a piece of him (including those making false paternity claims), he probably needs a long hibernation.

Many Everton fans have taken to the messageboards to express their dashed hopes. Some thought he would once again swoop in to ignite their stuttering seasons just after they built a bit of momentum with a 2-1 win over Man City.

Though that won't happen, it seems Landon is still hoping for another taste of the Premier League by saying, "I hope they'll [Everton] want me back in the future." Landon has proven himself to be someone who says what he means, so chances are he really is interested in another go when the timing his better for him. Of course, next year he will be 29 going on 30 and further removed from his stock-inflating stint in the Prem and World Cup impressiveness. But that might make him more affordable for cash-strapped Everton. We'll just have to wait and see.
