Charlie Whitehurst, backup quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, is doing just fine in place of Matt Hasselbeck. Thanks to his first quarter touchdown pass, the Seahawks are leading the St. Louis Rams by a score of 7-6 in the third quarter.
Whitehurst was not announced as the starting quarterback until minutes before the opening kickoff, when Seahawks head coach Pete Carrol gave him the nod.
Hasselbeck is apparently healthy enough to play, but Whitehurst practiced with the first team all week, giving him the advantage.
At this moment, Whitehurst has completed 18 of his 24 pass attempts for 154 yards and a touchdown, which came on a four-yard strike to Mike Williams in Seattle's first drive of the game.
If the Seahawks win, they win the NFC West and will host the New Orleans Saints on Saturday (Jan. 8).
